Perfect for a relaxing solo getaway

Room had a lovely view overlooking the river and the bartender was super friendly, made my evenings more enjoyable

Not the cheapest option out there but I guess you pay for the scenery and service

Hotel was wonderful relaxing, appreciated our stay.

We ate at a GOOD restaurant with a beautiful view over the lake and gardens. Comfy beds, a trouser press and an iron were a nice touch.

The garden was a delight and the bed was comfortable

evening meal cost 20 pounds and was not worth it. I could do gammon steak and veg for a fiver.

Clean place with absolutely brilliant view of the garden. New-fashioned and bright room with a lot of space. Prime location, on banks of Tyne-garden. Also - close to the river, beautiful grounds and the restaurant.

The location is great and the staff were good. Car parking was not a problem as parking was avail on both sides of the hotel. The living flame gas fires were a warm welcome every time we returned from our daily outing and the chairs were comfortable to relax in.

Some areas are in need of refurbishment or the reputation of 'The George' may be damaged. The menu for dinner could have had a little more choice, it was a limited menu in my view.

Breakfast was fine except the coffee was terrible.

The rooms are very plain and it appears the public places have been fixed up. The staff was very helpful and the pool was nice. Could use better coffee but breakfast was good.

Great garden, good location. Nice courteous staff.

Mould in the bathroom (not so tingling in case of allergy, gave a discount, very accommodating). Pool has become very old.

We had a really cheap break at the George, the pool was lovely meal ok for what we paid and we would stay again.

Fabulous restaurant and bar

Staff,although not local,were very friendly and provided good service. They were obviously trained well in customer service.

Some of the furnishings in the room although comfortable were obviously in tired condition. Fabric on chairs wearing outetc.

The first evening main course was poor, as vegetables were fridge cold and had to be reheated. Also the roast potatoes were hard and inedible. The second night was much improved. We got the impression the meals were not cooked to order, but on the plus side it was value for money.
